Back To Back City and State Championships
Seeing Greg Cooper's memoir brought back some great memories of the back to back CHSAA City and State Championships. After completing my first year as coach, with a won lost record of 5-18, the players brought the enthusiasm and energy into my second year. This was a team that everyone counted out, except the Nazareth family. The Team included such outstanding individuals as Greg Cooper, Phil Hayes, Paul Favours, Chris Andrea, Lorenzo Bynum and others, demonstrating unselfishness and willingness to do whatever it took to win. Going into my third year, was the year that proved that Nazareth (NAZ) was for real and we would be the program of the future. Not only did we win the City and State, but we captured the Federation. Both Championship seasons were led by the highest scorer in Nazareth History, Robert Phelps, along with some absolutely great and supportive teammates, which included, John Clarke, Marquis Scott, Warren Macintyre, David Palmer and John Sledge. These teams demonstrated unselfish play and tenacious defense. Wow! What great memories of school that overcame many obstacles behind the efforts of some determined and caring leadership in Ms. Terry Brody, Ron Sme, John Lorenzetti, Bobby Montgomery and my staff during those years, Idris Conry, Jamie Atkins, Phil Hayes, Sr., Lou Georgeanno, Keith Williams and Earl James. My Wife, Karen and my three daughters all have a special place in our hearts for the NAZ Family! Where are all these players? Somehow I would like to get them together just to present them their well deserved Back To Back Championship Rings. GO NAZ...
