Shock and Horror

We were in the gymnasium for an assembly at around 1:30 or 2:00 in the afternoon as was occasionally done in those days. I believe it was Brother Thaddeus CFX,then the principal of Nazareth, who stopped the assembly to announce that President John F. Kennedy had been shot. We all knelt and offered a communal prayer for his recovery. As a Freshman at Nazareth I could not comprehend who could have even CONSIDERED much less done such a horrible deed! I think it was the onset of my awareness of how cruel mankind can be to each other. In the many years since then I have watched many other horrors, and fortunately more instances of how kind and loving people CAN BE and ARE to each other. We have to keep our faith and hope!
