The nature of tragedy= excessive suffering, because you are supposed to learn something.

Hubrus/Hybris- excessive self-pride

Hermartia-tragic flaw=Oedipus' blindness. Hubrus is usually the hermartia in Greek tragedy.

Hamlet:

Tragedies are tales of harshness and injustice. All of Shakespeare's tragedies have a tragic hero----a protagonist who causes his own downfall through a tragic flaw. The tragic hero is put into a situation of conflict which he must resolve. Bad luck +bad judgment= death. He is often a man of high social standing. Hamlet's tragic flaw is procrastination. Hamlet is the prince of Denmark.

Injustice/ the tragedy comes about while the character seeks revenge. Are ordinary people.

What makes Hamlet different from other revenge tragedies?

Hamlet is a departure because it focuses more on his moral dilemma and not blood and murder. The "villain" is complex and three-dimensional. Claudius expresses remorse and real human emotion.
