Characters
 

Hamlet-protagonist and prince of Denmark. The ghost of his father tells him to seek revenge against Claudius.

 

Gertrude-the queen and Hamlet’s mother. She re-marries Claudius after the old king’s death.

 

Claudius- the new king and Hamlet’s uncle. He is murderer of Old Hamlet. Hamlet kills him.

 

Laertes-Ophelia’s brother and Polonius’ son. He is a foil for Hamlet. He also, ultimately kills Hamlet.

 

Polonius-the Lord Champlain and father to Ophelia and Laertes. He is long-winded in his speeches and killed by Hamlet.

 

Ophelia-Hamlet’s former flame. She is daughter to Polonius and sister to Laertes. Hamlet’s rejection causes her to go insane and drown herself.

 

Ghost-Old Hamlet’s ghost. He tells Hamlet to seek vengeance for his murder.

 

Horatio-Hamlet’s best friend. He is left to tell Hamlet's story after he is killed.

 

Fortinbras-The current prince of Norway. Old Hamlet killed his father.

 

Rosencrantz and Guildenstern- “Friends” of Hamlet from school. They are employed by Claudius and Gertrude to spy on Hamlet.

 

Reynaldo-Polonius’ servant. He is sent to France to spy on Laertes.
