Characters
Oedipus-The protagonist and king of Thebes; murderer of Laius. He gorges out his eyes when he finds out that he married his mother and killed his father.
Jocasta-The Queen of Thebes; Oedipus’ mother and Creon’s sister. She commits suicide when she realizes that she married her son.
Creon-Oedipus’ brother-in-law; Oedipus accuses him of plotting against him. He is the one to banish Oedipus.
Chorus-The voice of the people; a group of Theban elders.
Choragus-He was in voice of the chorus.
Tiresias-The blind soothsayer that warns Oedipus of his impending doom.
Polybus-Oedipus’ adoptive father; King of Corinth.
Messenger from Corinth-Tells Oedipus that Polybus is dead and confirms Oedipus’ fear that he is not Polybus’ natural son.
Herdsman-Survived the attack on King Laius. He rescued Oedipus when he was a baby.
